Her Royal Highness's Yearly Yuletide Musical Celebration Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The large audience will listen to a selection of carols, music and readings from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The central message of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

In the audience are a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a tumour, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the trust, with awards contributing to instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in the concert.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

Generations Gathering

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

This annual carol service will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
